Obituary

Angad “Munny” Singh Hira, 41, of Kentfield, CA, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2026. Born on January 23, 1985 in Old Bridge, NJ, Munny was the son of Daljeet and Gurvir Hira. Munny received his B.S. in commerce with a dual concentration in finance and accounting from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. In college, Munny was captain of the Bhangra team and later co-founded a regional Bhangra team, Pyare Putt Ankhiley. After graduation, Munny was an investment banker in the mergers & acquisitions group of UBS Investment Bank before spending more than 15 years at VMG Partners, a San Francisco-based private equity firm focused on consumer brands. During his tenure, he rose from investor to Partner, CFO and COO, helping VMG grow from an emerging firm into a manager with more than $3 billion in assets and a portfolio of iconic consumer brands. However, Munny’s most enduring impact at VMG was the culture he built. He was known for building a team with zero attrition and empowering those around him to reach their full potential. Munny lived by the motto “work to live, don’t live to work.” An avid fan of the New York Giants, Yankees and UVA basketball, Munny was known for his hustle, his intellect, his warmth, his generosity and his devotion to his family. He spent his free time coaching his two young boys in sports, riding bikes and organizing trips for his family and friends. Munny was, as loved ones put it, “a gem amongst gems,” and remains forever in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Trisha Chhaya, who met Munny as a first-year at the University of Virginia and their two sons, Sahan and Amar; his parents, Daljeet and Gurvir Hira; his brother, Ajay Hira, and sister-in-law, Ruchika, and their two children; his in-laws, Archana and Pravin Chhaya; his sister- and brother-in-law, Aditi Chhaya and Srikar Vadlamani and their two children; his sister-in-law, Priya Chhaya; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
