Terms of Service

Life Celebrations is operated by Metro.Agency in partnership with community newspapers in Northern California. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Life Celebrations, and "you" means the person using the service.

By submitting an obituary, a memory, or a payment, you agree to these terms on behalf of yourself and anyone you are acting for.

You do not need an account to create a memorial. If you choose to sign in, we send a single-use link to your email address instead of asking for a password. Anyone with access to that email can sign in as you, so keep it secure.

We may send you a private link so you can manage a submission while it is under review. Treat that link as confidential.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the names, dates, and details you provide, and you confirm that you have the right to publish them. Where a family has a designated representative, please make sure they are aware of the submission.

You keep ownership of the words, photographs, and recordings you upload. You grant us a licence to publish, format, and reproduce them on Life Celebrations and in partner newspapers, and to keep a copy for the permanent record.

Every submission is reviewed by staff before it is published. We may edit for length, style, or newspaper requirements, ask you for confirmation of a detail, or decline to publish material we cannot verify.

Our guided tools use artificial intelligence to draft an obituary from the details you provide. The output can contain errors or invented details, so please read it carefully and correct anything wrong before you approve it.

You approve the final text. What we publish is what you approved.

Publishing a memorial online is free. Print placement in a partner newspaper is priced per word for each publication, with a minimum charge, and any add-ons are shown before you pay.

Print deadlines are set by each newspaper. We will place your notice in the earliest issue we can meet, but we cannot guarantee a specific date or page position. Framable keepsake copies are available for purchase and are printed to order.

Payments are processed by our payment provider. Because print placement is bought from third-party newspapers, a notice cannot be refunded once it has gone to press. If we make an error in setting your notice, tell us and we will correct and re-run it at our cost.

While your memorial is awaiting review, you can correct it yourself from the private manage link we email you when you submit. Once it has been published, or once the notice has gone to the newspaper for typesetting, contact us to correct an error or to request removal and we will act promptly.

Once a notice has appeared in print, that printed record cannot be recalled, and historic newspaper editions may be archived by third parties, including the United States Library of Congress.

Do not submit material that is false, impersonates someone, infringes copyright, or is abusive to the person being remembered or to their family. Do not use the service to advertise, to collect personal data, or to disrupt the site. We may remove content or withdraw access if you do.

The service is provided as-is. We do not warrant that memorial pages will be available without interruption, and we are not responsible for the content of material submitted by other contributors.

To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the submission concerned.

We may update these terms as the service changes. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised, and continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the revised terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts serving Santa Clara County, California.
